China put on a great Olympics but at what cost?




The following article points out some of the negative effects rewarding China with the Olympics will have on the country.

Here is a snippet from the article:


"Not a single world leader who attended the Games or members of the International Olympic Committee seized the opportunity to challenge the Chinese government's behavior in any meaningful way," said Sophie Richardson, Asia advocacy director for the U.S.-based Human Rights Watch.

"Will anyone wonder, after the games are over, why the Chinese government remains intransigent (unreasonable; irreconcilable) about human rights?"

Protestors for Tibet climb Golden Gate Bridge -



SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Three people protesting China's human rights record and the impending arrival of the Olympic torch climbed up the Golden Gate Bridge Monday and tied the Tibetan flag and two banners to its cables.

“Whether the Chinese government admits it or not, a nation with an ancient cultural heritage is actually facing serious dangers,” the Dalai Lama told reporters during an emotionally charged news conference here.
