nyc dog runs - tompkins square park dog run reviewed:

Tompkins Square Park dog run resides in the heart of the East Village. Of all the dog runs in Lower Manhattan, tompkins square park feels the least like a dog a run and I say that in a good way. It's a wide open area with a dirt surface and wonderful large trees all around you. There is a "no toys" policy at this dog run which I like although there are sometimes sticks and branches around which dogs can get in fights over. This dog run used to be renowned for the many fights that occurred and the entire park itself was ridiculously dirty at one point. But these days it's a well kept area and while there are still more dog altercations here than your average run I do like Tompkins Square a lot. There is a separate dog run for small dogs too.

Some very exciting news is that "New York City Parks and Recreation announced the dog run in Tompkins Square Park will receive a $150,000 renovation. " Click the following link to view what changes will be made in the restoration of the tompkins square park dog run.

nyc dog runs - battery park dog run reviewed

The battery park dog run could not be positioned any better for the surrounding buildings. There is a sectioned off run for small dogs and what this run really has going for it is the amount of open space. It's a great place to give your dog a cardio if they like to chase a ball. There is also a very large seating area and you never lose site of your dog. Unfortunately it's rather empty during the day so if your dog can not amuse himself you might want have your walker do a walk on the river instead.

Nothing fancy but a clean, large, well located dog run.

nyc dog runs - chelsea piers dog run reviewed

The dog run by chelsea piers blends in perfectly with the hip local art galleries and the positive energy of the neighborhood. Dog owners overall seem to keep track of their dogs and there is a scheduled clean up from the parks department so it stays relatively clean.

The center piece of this dog run are the sloping bumps and overhanging tree branches. It gives dogs a good chance to play hide and seek but it is also one of the problems with this dog run. The hills make it so you can not always see your dog so it can be hard to settle in and relax. There's also not much room outside the hilly area to run around.

All in all though a very unique and fun dog run for you and your dog.

nyc dog runs - washington square park dog runs reviewed:

Washington Square Park resides in the heart of Greenwich Village and has a long, storied history. There is always some type of live performer there and it's a fun place to take your dog. This is actually my favorite dog run in Lower Manhattan and it really is an oasis in the heart of the Village.

The dog run itself has a great long, wide open stretch for your dog to run free. Visitors to the run are usually friendly and overall they keep track of their own dogs. There is a separate dog run for smaller dogs which is great too. Once in awhile it attracts aggressive dogs with careless owners but not more than your average run.

The dog run used to be know as a "very" dirty dog run but it has improved dramatically both by those who operate and frequent the run. Click the following link to view a map and directions to washington square park.

There are plans for a new dog run in washington square park in the near future and there is reason to worry about this. From what I've heard the new layout will have lots of blind spots where you can not see your dog at all and it's not clear what type of transition period there would be from the old to the new run.

nyc dog runs - leroy street dog run reviewed

The Leroy Street dog run resides on the West River, in the West Village. It is an imperfect dog run in a perfect location. People have always complained about the surface being slippery and dogs have cracked nails, slipped, etc.. There's not much to it but open space but the view you can see below is what brings you here. Making a separate dog run for small dogs would be ideal too. But when you are looking off into the west river as the sun sets and your dog jumps in the swimming pool on a spring day, that will surely make you want to come back.

A dog run with lots of promise but needs more work.
