UMBRELLA WARS - the bigger the umbrella, the bigger the...

With the recent rain here in new york city it was yet another opportunity to witness the umbrella wars of our streets. With the jagged edges of broken steel tips coming towards my eyes I couldn't help but ponder how many people don't pay attention to other peoples space. At the same time it seems the bigger the umbrella, the higher chance I'm going to have to dodge out of the way of a steel tip.

Chivalry seems to have become a victim of a more and more self-obsessed city. Those persons barreling through public with their umbrellas only seems to support this feeling. Slow down a bit and take in your surroundings!

remembering 911 -

I can't speak for the country but new york city has definitely bounced back from 911 because of the amazing people who live here. The people who work and live in new york city are to me what makes it the greatest city in the world.

3 new york city movies:

1. goodfellas - One of the best opening 15-20 minutes of any film I've seen and a street level mafia study. An all star cast of Robert DeNiro, Joe Pesci and Ray Liotta, among others.

2. annie hall: Anytime you think of woody allen you think of new york city....ok, you think of a few other things too but his movies are true old school nyc.

3. the pope of greenwich village - A fun movie with eric roberts as an off the wall young punk trying to make it big and taking his confused buddy, mickey rourke, along for the ride. It will make you want to take a trip to the village, buy a sandwich, hang out on a stoop and just people watch.

nyc images - the opening to "dog day afternoon"

My brother and I have always loved the opening to sidney lumet's "dog day afternoon" and it really takes you back to old school new york city. The clip fades into the opening of the movie, which if you haven't seen is great. It's a true story about a man (played by al pacino) who gets held up in a bank while trying to rob it.
